Lake Awing is located with Bafut Ngemba Forest Reserve, occupies a surface area of about4km square. It is one of the many crater lakes found along Cameroon volcanic line, A major crater lake.
Lake Awing is one of the beautiful attractions of this area. Effects of the Lake Awing are noticed in the zone around the Alatening road Junction, covering the hills in the neighbourhood that is usually very foggy.
Inhabitants of the area say this is due to the changes caused by the Lake Awing The area is essentially mountainous and is found within the North West and West Regions mountain chain.
The highest point in the area is Mt Lefo found in Awing, which is about 2209m above sea level. The relief ranges from about 400 - 2600m above sea level.
Outstanding peaks are the Azope hills and Mount Lefo, including many other ranges.
The Azope mountain and Mt Lefo races are great events in the area. Beautiful waterfalls are found on some of the mountain slopes especially during the rainy season. There is a watershed at Mile 11.
